End of an era

This is a post I made on LinkedIn.

Working in the U.S. federal digital services is…complicated right now.

And for a variety of those complicated reasons, my GovTech era has come to an end. I write that sentence with coffee in hand, mixed emotions in my heart, looking over an idyllic San Francisco view as the world continues to turn, relentlessly. I’ve learned so much over the last 4 years of growing teams and pivoting products. And I’m so grateful to the genuinely dedicated, talented, hilarious, and mission-driven colleagues I worked with. Here’s to the hundreds of thousands of administrative hours and millions of tax payer dollars we saved! 🥂

This tour of duty pushed me in many ways. But now, I’m feeling grounded and ready for a new challenge that also feels like déjà vu: I’m heading back to Google to join the Android XR team! 🤓

Android XR recently made quite a splash at Google I/O with several headsets and glasses announcements. As someone who is simultaneously massively visual, massively nearsighted, and also a massive geek about applied mathematics, I’m actually SO unreasonably excited to contribute to the graphics and rendering infrastructure of our mixed reality future, especially at this critical acceleration point of GenAI technology 🤓🤓🤓

This position is a bit of a full-circle moment, bringing me all the way back to my academic roots (VR! AI! Robotics! Level builders!) and the kind of technical innovation that captivated me fresh out of college. As part of this transition, I’m also returning to the Bay Area.

CivicTech friends - let’s keep in touch! Immersive tech friends - let’s reconnect! South Bay friends - hmu! Stay safe, stay sane, and keep a weather eye on the horizon - what a time to be alive. 🚡
